Dear Friends of the Navy,

This year your United States Navy will celebrate its 241th year of service to America.  Today, approximately 324,179 Sailors are standing watch across the globe.  An additional 108,779 Navy Reservists stand ready to answer any call to mobilize in support of national needs.  In fact, approximately 3,805 such citizen Sailors are mobilized right now.

The local Knoxville Navy Operational Support Center, supports 200 plus reservists who drill each month.  The NOSC is home to four Reserve Augment Units that support Fleet commands including USS Emory S. Land and Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, and the Maritime Expeditionary Security Detachment.  Knoxville’s reserve Sailors are electricians, drivers, nurses, physicians, and local businessman.

Their recent deployments have included combat support service in Iraq and Afghanistan, and humanitarian assistance to tsunami victims in Japan, and numerous other missions.  On October 1st 2016, the Navy League of Knoxville is sponsoring a Gala Ball honoring the service of Knoxville’s finest Sailors.  The tradition of service and volunteerism is strong in East Tennessee, and beginning with our Navy’s first Admiral, David Farragut, it remains strong today, with many of our Tennessee Shipmates deployed right now.

Please join us in celebrating a night of honoring our United States Navy's Tradition and Heritage on Saturday, October 1st, at the The Crowne Plaza Knoxville.  Everyone in the community is welcome.  If it weren't for our community, we wouldn't be as strong.  Thank you for your support.

                                                                                        With warm regards,
                                                                              The Navy League of Knoxville
